About the Authors

Susan NelsonAuthor Loraine ManwaringLoraine Manwaring and Susan Nelsen are sisters who both enjoy quilting. Loraine started sewing at the age of eight when she received a small Singer sewing machine as a gift. Her grandmother helped her sew a dress for herself on the tiny chainstitch machine, and she has loved sewing ever since. When her children were young, she began teaching basic sewing to a women's group at church, and this led to teaching beginning quilting classes as well. She has taught various fabric arts ever since and has been designing her own patterns and quilting projects for years. She is appreciative of her grandmother and the many accomplished-quilter friends, who have taught her over the years. She holds a degree in elementary education from Utah State University. Loraine and her husband, Mark, raised their family in Washington and currently live in Utah at the foot of the rugged Wasatch Mountains. They are the parents of five grown children. Loraine enjoys creating new quilt designs, traveling the world, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Susan loves the creative experience of working with fabrics and colors and has been quilting for what seems like forever. She thrives on designing and is the owner of Razzmatazz Designs, an original quilt-pattern company and a long-arm machine quilting business. She can be found at her computer, her sewing machine or her long-arm machine anytime, day or night. Along with 20 patterns, she has published one other book.

She has a degree in elementary education from Utah State University and worked as a substitute teacher while her children were growing up. She worked for several years at a local quilt shop and continues to teach machine quilting for home sewing machines. In addition, she enjoys working as a freelance editor for quilting books and projects.

After traversing the country for more than twenty-five years with the United States Air Force, Susan and her husband, Ken, moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, following Ken's retirement seven years ago. They have three terrific sons and a talented daughter. They thoroughly enjoy the role of grandparents to their grandchildren.
