About the Authors

Judy Hooworth is a leading Australian quiltmaker. She started out as an art teacher but became fascinated with the American quilts that she saw in magazines in the 1960s and 1970s. Judy began to make quilts herself, learning as she went. While she has always loved traditional quilts, Judy also began to make her own contemporary quilts. From these beginnings, Judy has continued with this double focus—making pieced quilts with a modern twist and making art quilts of her own unique design.

Judy is renowned for her bold and brilliant use of color. Her quilts have been exhibited in Australia and around the world, including Quilt National four times. Judy has taught patchwork and quilting in Australia and around the world, and she has written two previous books, Razzle Dazzle Quilts and Spectacular Scraps: A Simple Approach to Stunning Quilts (out of print), coauthored with Margaret Rolfe. Judy lives in Morisset, which is north of Sydney, with her husband, Richard, and two cats.

Margaret Rolfe is also a leading Australian quiltmaker. She was inspired to make quilts after being introduced to patchwork while visiting America in 1975. Returning to Australia, she also had to learn by doing. Margaret began teaching and writing books in the 1980s, and she has become well known for her pieced designs of animals and birds. Many of these designs are in her bestselling book A Quilter's Ark. She has always been interested in the history of quilting in Australia and has written several books on this subject. Her most recent books are Successful Scrap Quilts from Simple Rectangles, coauthored with Judy Turner, and The Magic of Quiltmaking: A Beginner's Guide, coauthored with Jenny Bowker. In 2001 Margaret was nationally honored by becoming a Member of the Order of Australia. Margaret lives in Canberra, Australia's capital, with her husband, Barry and two dogs.

Judy and Margaret became friends while working on their previous book Spectacular Scraps (out of print). They are especially delighted to be collaborating again with this book, because it continues their shared love of pieced quilts and the exploration of pattern.
