About the DesignsCeltic decoration has a distinct and individual style, where repeat patterns prevail and simple forms are entwined in an everlasting embrace. Knotwork especially is woven into shapes that mirror or repeat themselves, some simple, some more elaborate. Inspired by early stone carvings and metal embellishments, Celtic scribes incorporated many knotwork designs into their manuscripts, weaving beautiful colored and gilded designs around flowing scripts. In this book, just as the scribes before me, I have taken my inspiration from these early designs, and many of the illustrations are true to their origins.
