Introduction

Scrappy is the term for a quilt that uses many different fabrics, including prints, woven plaids, florals, paisleys and others. The more varied your fabric choices and scale of print, the scrappier the quilt will look.

Calico Printworks Scrapping 'Rules'

  • If you need 20 fabrics to complete a quilt, start with at least 24. More is better.
  • Fabrics do not have to be used in equal amounts. An accent color is just that - it is used less and stands out more. Less is more.
  • Scrapping is a Feeling - if you like it, use it! The important thing to remember is that you need a variety of fabrics and an "ugly" fabric will add interest. Everyone's "ugly" will be different.
  • Relax and Enjoy!

From the Authors

In our retail shop, Calico, Canvas and Colors we sell rolls and bundles of 1/4 yard cuts that are color coordinated for particular quilts, or for scrapping. We always recommend that you use the roll or bundle as a starter kit, adding fabrics you love that blend into the color scheme and nature of the roll.

A special thank you to all of our customers. They are our best "pattern testers"!

Most importantly, thank you to our families who are forever patient, supportive and somewhat surprised at what we choose to do. They will always come first.

We've learned a lot about the publishing business over the past seven years! It has been quite an experience and a lot of fun, too. We love what we do and hope you will too.
