About the Author

I first learned about Celia Thaxter through her book An Island Garden, which I received as a gift from a dear friend. Celia made me feel most welcome in her garden and it was through her love of flowers that I got to know this remarkable and ageless woman. Little did I realize at that time how much of an influence she would have on my work and my life.

As a quilt teacher and lover of hand appliqué and Baltimore Album quilts. I had decided that I would make a quilt for C & T Publishing's Baltimore Album Revival Contest as soon as I read the categories and rules in the fall of 1992. I officially began thinking about the design of the quilt on January 1, 1993. I liked working with blocks set on point, so I decided upon a five-block set. The background fabric would be hand-dyed sky fabric, which is a favorite of mine. There would be an intense border of Celia's flowers.

A few years later, Celia's garden and love of flowers, along with my love of flowers and working with beautiful ribbons, combined to inspire me to create this new endeavor—Ribbon Treasures from Celia's Garden. I hope the reader of this book takes pleasure in working with ribbon to create beautiful flowers and to use them for special projects, gifts and tokens of affection.
