About the Author

Karen Combs is an internationally known quilter, teacher, author and designer, who has been nominated by students for Quilt Teacher of the Year in 1995, 2000 and 2005. Teaching since 1989, she is in high demand as a teacher who encourages her students, makes learning fun, and makes the complex easy to understand.

Karen is fascinated with optical illusions and quilts, this is the subject of many of her workshops, magazine articles and books .Her quilts have appeared in the Hoffman Challenge and in many popular quilting magazines. She has appeared on several television quilting shows, among them Quilting from the Heartland, Simply Quilts, Quilt Central, and American Quilter.

She lives in the rolling hills of middle Tennessee with her husband Rick and a very sweet Shih Tzu named Cocoa. Karen and Rick have two grown children: Angela and Joshua. Her hobbies, besides quilting, include reading, yoga, Pilates, power walking and American Sign Language.

She is the author of these AQS books: Optical Illusions for Quilters, Combing Through Your Scraps, and Floral Illusions for Quilters, and she is the co-author of 3 Quilters Celebrate the 4 Seasons. Celtic Pieced Illusions is Karen's fifth book with the American Quilter's Society.
