Popular
in the 1930s and 1940s, the Dresden Plate is brought up-to-date in the New Quilts
from an Old Favorite challenge. For 12 years, the Museum of the American Quilter's
Society has held its annual international contest to help quilters transform traditional
quilts with imaginative designs and techniques. This year, 18 contest finalists
and winners have mastered the Dresden Plate block. Enjoy these accomplished designers'
tips, techniques, patterns, and stories as you gain insight into their creative
process. This circular block pattern is infinite with alternate interpretations.
Made up of several curved or peaked blades and a circle, the components of this
block are pieced, then appliquéd to the block. The pie-shaped wedges are the perfect
place to use up scraps or to explore fussy cutting possibilities. If you are an
aspiring quilt designer, apprehensive about taking the dive into creating your
own patterns, then this book is your springboard into creativity and confidence.
.This perennial design takes a new turn in this inspirational challenge.
