From the author's introduction: "After the success I had making the first vase, I became a little more adventurous and began pushing the limits on my next designs. Not only did I want to create interesting shapes I wanted the vase to look quilted, as if I had taken a quilt and somehow make it stand on its own .To achieve this look I incorporated simple, traditional piecing patterns in the background, and free-motion quilted each panel. I then developed a technique to join the panels together with machine quilting, eliminating all but a little handwork for completion. The bold colors contrasting with the background piecing added the punch I wanted to produce the heightened interest a piece of art demands."
