About the AuthorAlthough Joan doesn't love gardening, she does love flowers. It was through her love of flowers and desire to make them as realistic as possible out of fabric that her Appli-bond technique was conceived. It is difficult to believe that she comes to quilting having no artistic training because her Petal Play designs are so life-like. Joan, who was taught to sew on a Singer treadle machine by her grandmother, has been a quilter for many years. She has her own pattern company, Petal Play, which she operates from her home in Massachusetts. In addition, she has taught and lectured extensively throughout the country. She has appeared on television on the PBS show "Quilting from the Heartland" with Sharlene Jorgenson, and on the HGTV program "Simply Quilts" with Alex Anderson. A registered nurse, Joan and her husband, Tony, live on Cape Cod. They have two children, Matthew and Kristin and granddaughter, Shay Elizabeth.
