BOOK
Back Cover InformationIn this 208-page book find history, timeline, stories, and artistry of original quilts that represent the ingenuity, resourcefulness and innovation of American Quiltmakers. The 24 featured projects are inspired by antique quilts from the archives of The Henry Ford and include easy to follow instructions and full-size patterns from Fons & Porter® for making replicas of historic quilts. You'll also find a special section devoted to the impressive quilt collection of internationally-known nineteenth-century quilting genius Susan McCord.
Marianne Fons and Liz Porter met in a beginners quilting class in Winterset, Iowa, around 1976. At a time when very few books on quilt were available, they decided to write their own, and the partnership of Fons & Porter® was born. One quilting book led to another, and another. Their 1993 Quilter's Complete Guide, is considered "the Bible of quiltmaking" and is still in print with more than 400,000 copies sold.
Since 1996, Marianne and Liz have been a popular presence on public television, co-hosting over 175 episodes of instructional quilting for audiences nationwide. Their program, "Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting," is the most widely aired quilting program available, reaching 82% of American households.
In 2001, Marianne and Liz had the opportunity to acquire their magazine Love of Quilting, from Oxmoor House, a Time/Warner Company. Under their direction, the magazine has grown to be the largest-circulated quilting magazine in the US.
Despite the growth of their business and its many responsibilities, what Marianne and Liz still love best is sitting down at a sewing machine, or with a needle and thread, and joining pieces of cotton cloth to make a beautiful quilt.
