"...silk ribbon explode with color as they dance across fabric with unique luster and patter. The author's enormous enthusiasm and love of her subject make anything seem possible." Wilcke Smith, fiber artist
"I really don't need another needlework obsession. But reading Judith Montano's Silk Ribbon Embroidery and drooling over the luscious pictures of delicate ribbon-flower design has done just that for me." Alice Korach, Associate Editor of Threads Magazine
Judith Montano is a Canadian fiber artist who grew up in the beautiful foothills of the Alberta province. Judith attended the University of California at Chico, graduating with degrees in art and journalism. Upon graduation, she pined with the San Francisco Art Guild. She began quilting in 1976 while living in Houston, Texas, where she was an active member of the Kingswood Quilt Guild. Judith produced her first prize-winning quilt in 1980, winning Best of Show at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It was a special victory for her since her grandmother won the same award in 1934.
At the same time she was making quilts, Judith ran a successful antique shop and tea room. For six years people enjoyed her European menu and hospitality in an old, converted church. She closed the shop in 1982 to pursue a career in fiber arts. An accomplished fiber artist, Judith is also a qualified teacher and lecturer. Classes are varied, and she is comfortable in the embroidery, quilting, and fiber arts fields. Teaching has taken her throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
