About
the AuthorMaaike Bakker was born in 1958 in the Netherlands. She studied textile techniques and art history at a teacher-training college and at an art academy. Maaike began her career as a professional quilter in the mid-1990's. She then published two books in Dutch with quilt designs based on paper-piecing and foundation-piecing techniques. In 2001, she published a book in German featuring quilts based on these techniques. This is her third book with Martingale & Company.
Maaike lives and works in a little village in the north of the Netherlands. In her studio in an old farmhouse, she designs her quilts and writes books and articles about patchwork and quilting. She also teaches patchwork and quilting techniques in her studio to many groups and individuals. She has taught classes in Germany and France as well. She has exhibited many of her quilts in the Netherlands, in Germany, and in the United States.
Maaike and her husband, Theo, who does the word processing and the first editing of her books, have three children: two daughters (ages 24 and 15). Both daughters also enjoy patchwork and quilting. Maaike dedicates this book to her oldest daughter, Renske, who was very helpful in creating the quilts for this book.
