BEFORE fusing, make sure that the fusible adhesive and fabric are positioned so NO edges are laying outside of the area of the pressing sheet(s).
Never use an iron setting above "WOOL" or beyond 500°. Most fabrics can be fused with the "WOOL" iron set when using a Teflon pressing sheet. Press for approximately 5-10 seconds.
If nylon or other synthetic fabrics are used for the appliqué, adjust the iron's heat setting lower than "Wool"
NOTE: Always test a small portion of the fabrics to be used to determine the affects of the iron temperature and fusing results. A transparent pressing sheet will allow you observe the melting of the the fusible adhesive while applying heat with the iron.
When fusing a felt patch to a base fabric, for better results and good heat penetration use steam and press for 30 seconds.
CAUTION: Allow pressing sheet and fused project to cool before handling.
Always wipe the pressing sheet clean of any excess fusible adhesive before the next usage to prevent sticky stuff accidentally transfering to another project.
To prevent appliqué pieces from accidentally sticking together, do not lay warm fused patches/pieces on top of each other.
When doing machine applique satin stitch use a stabilizer material on the underside of the background fabric. This will prevent stitches from puckering and slipping, thus improving the appearance of the satin stitch.
Children using heated irons, scissors and needles should be monitored at all times.
Select a design from a printed fabric, such as a flower, animal, bear, bird, etc. which you would like to iron onto a sweatshirt, child's garment, wall hanging, quilt, etc.
Roughly cut out printed design.
Place pressing sheet on ironing board.
Place design on one-half of pressing sheet, wrong side up.
Place Fine Fuse, Fusible Adhesive on fabric. Make sure it covers the entire design.
Cover fabric and adhesive completely with remaining half of pressing sheet.
For most fabrics, set iron on "Wool" setting.
Press adhesive and fabric about 5-10 seconds. If nylon or other synthetic fabrics are used for the appliqué, adjust the iron lower than "Wool".
Allow pressing sheet to cool, THEN remove fused fabric. DO NOT stack WARM applique pieces or they will stick together.
When cool, to create an iron-on appliqué piece, trim fused fabric along outline desired. NOTE: Fabric should be completely fused on wrong side (from edge-to-edge.)
Position and press iron-on to background of item to be appliquéd. Note appliqué is completely stabilized and free of puckers and will not ravel.
IF desired, appliqué may be stitched. If item is to be cleaned or washed, stitching is recommended.
