Made in USAInstructions for the Fat Quarter Ruler: CGRY1

The Creative Grids® Fat Quarter Cutter cuts an array of pre-cut shapes (strips & Squares) from fat quarters, yardage and larger scraps. On the 5" side use the black lines to cut any 2 ˝" or 5" combinations. On the 6" side use the white lines to cut any 1 ˝" and 6" combinations.

The following cutting charts assume that each fat quarter yields a 16" x 20" piece of usable fabric out of a possible 18" x 22" fat quarter. Remove the selvage with the long edge of the ruler. Straighten an adjoining side to create a true right angle. Then, follow these instructions to cut any of the shapes.

Cutting 5" Strips:
Use the black, 5" line to cut 3 —5" strips the width of the fabric.

Fig1

Cutting 5" Squares:
Follow the instructions above to cut 3 —5" strips. Then, rotate the ruler 90° and use the 5" black line on the ruler to cut these strips into 12 - 5" squares.

Fig2

Cutting 2 ˝" Strips:
Use the black, 2 ˝" line to cut 6 —2 ˝" strips the width of the fabric.

Fig3

Cutting 2 ˝" x 5" Rectangles:
Follow the instructions above to cut 6 —2 ˝" strips. Then, rotate the ruler 90° and use the 5" black line on the ruler to cut these strips into 24 —2 ˝" x 5" rectangles.

Fig4

Cutting 2 ˝" Squares:
Follow the instructions above to cut 6 —2 ˝" strips. Then, rotate the ruler 90° and use the 2 ˝" black line on the ruler to cut these strips into 48 —2 ˝" squares.

Fig5

Cutting 6" Strips:
The ruler is 6" wide, so cut 2 —6" strips the width of the ruler.

Fig6

Cutting 6" Squares:
Follow the instructions above to cut 2 —6" strips. Then, rotate the ruler 90° and use the width of the ruler to cut these strips into 6 —6" squares.

Fig7

Cutting 1 ˝" Strips:
Use the white, 1 ˝" line to cut 10 —1 ˝" strips the width of the fabric.

Fig8

Cutting 1 ˝" Squares:
Follow the instructions above to cut 10 —1 ˝" strips. Then, rotate the ruler 90° and use the 1 ˝" black line on the ruler to cut these strips into 130 —1 ˝".

Subcuts:
If you are cutting shapes from 1 ˝"; 2 ˝"; 5" and 6" strips, rotate the ruler or the cutting mat to achieve the desired cuts. Many of these secondary cuts are shown on the ruler (1 ˝" square; 2 ˝" square; 5" square; 6" square and 2 ˝" x 5" rectangle).
