Note from Sharla Hicks, Certified Zentangle InstructorIf you have never been taken a Zentangle Class from a CZT (Certified Zentangle Instructor) on Zentangle this kit is an excellent start up. With the DVD you see the Master and Founder of the Zentangle concept, Maria Thomas, demonstrate multiple Zentangle Patterns. This is done one step at a time and acts as a good introduction to the concepts behind Zentangle. The included booklet offers written instruction and patterns to augment what you learned from viewing the DVD. I have watched the DVD several times and see something new each time to add to my knowledge base.. The kits provides you with a chance to try out how wonderful it is to draw Zentangles on the high-quality paper tiles using Sakura's high quality Micron Pigma Permanent Pens. |

Your Zentangles are your personal artistic expression. They are individual works of art in your personal gallery. Your Zentangles deserve to be drawn with the best pens on the best paper. After extensive tests the kits included pens and paper that were determined ideal based on the criteria of longevity and an ideal combination of paper weight, surface texture and pen response to this paper. Using these pens and pencils on this paper is a joy. With these components, you can ensure that your Zentangles will be a respected and treasured work of art that can last for generations. And, it feels so good to use fine materials and to experience the flow of ink from these pens onto exquisite paper.
Each tile is custom die-cut, inspired by this fine paper's original deckle edges. The idea to die-cut their edges arose when some early Zentangle prototypes accidentally went through the laundry. While those Zentangles came out in great shape, with their patterns not a bit faded, their edges were softened and their corners rounded. This so added to its beauty it was decided to die-cut the tiles from then on. Sized at 3-1/2 inches square, these tiles are designed to fit in pockets or in old floppy disk containers. The die-cut edges also fit together nicely in a mosaic. |

If you ever sat down to do a Zentangle® and couldn't think of what string to draw, (or didn't want to think of what string to draw) then pre-strung tiles are for you.
If you find you keep drawing similar strings and want to break that mold and work with new and different strings, then these pre-strung tiles work great.
These sets are also ideal when people come together in groups to make and explore Zentangles. Each member gets a prestrung set. Then your group picks one or several of these prestrung tiles and each person does their own Zentangles and returns to discuss and share. Think of it as Zentangle's version of a book club.

This paper is designed for etching, engraving, woodcut and other fine art techniques such as Zentangle, and is usually reserved for special editions.
Black Zentangle Tiles are cut from the original 3.5 x 3.5" square tile die, only with black paper. Created from Arches Cover Stock (pronounced "arsh"). This beautiful charcoal black paper is 100% cotton and a perfect weight and texture for tangling.

Sakura's White Gelly Roll Gel Pen, glides beautifully over the Black Arches paper. Very little pressure is needed for this pen to work it's magic. Simply tickle the paper and the ink to flows elegantly into your drawing.

On Black Tiles, use the General's White Pastel Pencil to draw strings, shade and highlight the finished tangles. Slowly work up layers with your pencil. Feel free to blend or smudge this pencil with your fingers or a tortillion

Zentangle® Ensembles™ are an inspiring way to enjoy Zentangle®, whether alone or with a group. A Zentangle® Ensemble is a set of nine "pre-strung" tiles that fit together like a puzzle to create a composite 10.5 inch square Zentangle.
Ensembles inspire individual creativity. Its string's continuity across all nine tiles allows all tiles to fit together as a whole. It's fascinating to see unexpected patterns and relationships revealed as tiles that are done at different times or by different people are assembled.
Sharla's Recommedation: The joy that comes from working with these beautiful ensemble strings and tiles is beyond expression. I made 6 sets for Christmas and plan to tangle more.
